A leading medical device manufacturer closed a manufacturing plant in a corporate-driven effort to eliminate duplication of manufacturing processes and reduce costs. Plans to transfer multiple product lines from the closing plant to 4 different manufacturing sites were proposed with an initial 3-month target date and a production plan to build 6 months worth of inventory.

Project plans were created to include transfer of equipment, transfer of documentation, process validations, training and inventory build-up. Key milestones were set, project teams developed, and communication plans defined. The project plan was extended 30 days to accommodate the production schedule.

Project plan was completed in 4 months. The production schedule was completed 97%-to-plan, and the transfer was seamless to the customer.
